Living Artwork: Completion at Peak View

The scaffolding is down, the tools are packed away, and the final signatures are on the dotted line. Following a successful final inspection from Building Control and the completion of all snagging, MAD Architects LLP is proud to announce the completion of our latest project in Chesterfield, Derbyshire.

The Final Reveal

The most anticipated moment of this build was the installation of the glazed balustrades. Spanning the level change between the upper patio and the lower garden store roof, the glass acts as a transparent safety ribbon. It manages the vertical drop without creating a visual wall, effectively unifying the two terrace levels into one cohesive outdoor space.

While the engineering of the 3-meter drop was the primary technical challenge, the result is purely atmospheric. The original conservatory functioned as a separator, cutting the house off from its surroundings. Today, the new sliding doors and level thresholds provide a direct, seamless link to the garden.

The Architecture of Living Artwork

The expansive sliding glass doors and architectural canopy have transformed the daily experience of the home. For our client, the result is a space that has become a piece of "living artwork." Every morning, the changing character of the Derbyshire weather and the shifting light across the Peak District hills create a new painting framed by the architecture.

The garage conversion has fulfilled its promise, providing a high-spec home office that offers a sense of calm and perspective that was entirely absent in the original layout. More importantly, the entire ground floor is now future-proofed, offering long-term security without compromising on design.

What’s Next?

Handover is complete, but our relationship with the project continues. We will be returning in the New Year once the sun is out and the client has fully settled in. We’re looking forward to capturing professional photography of the interior, specifically focusing on the view of the hills from the living room.
